Editorial notes

1. In earlier letters to Paton, Pennant writes of his intention to solicit Lawrence Dundas as a patron for George Low.
2. In 1774 Pennant issued The additions to the quarto edition of the Tour in Scotland, a separate volume containing the new plates and appendices of the third edition of the Tour in Scotland 1769, to prevent those who owned earlier editions from having to purchase new copies of the entire tour.
