Transcribed from a volume of scribal copies of Pennant's original letters to David Skene. The copies are likely the work of Alexander Thomson, who on his death in 1868, bequeathed the collection to Aberdeen University Library. See Colin A. McLaren, ‘Reports and surveys of archives in northern Scotland’ in Northern Scotland: A Historical Journal, Volume 1 (1972), pp.115-125.

Dear Sir

The enclosed catalogue will inform you of the contents of a box that sets out for Messrs. Hopkins’ &c next week, carriage paid. In it is a small parcel for Mr. Oglevie, and some birds he desired might be returned, also the little bottle and the two birds you favoured me with.

I heartily wish it had been in my power to have sent you more things; but it is a long time since I left off the fossil studying, and am now so taken up with Zoology that I have scarce time to attend to anything else. I shall be happy if I can ever be of use to my friends in N. Britain, and beg you would continue to me your communications of such new things which fall in your way. I shall send you this winter the last part of my Br. Zool. illustrated. I shall not forget my tour through Scotland but I think that will scarce appear this winter.

I am Dear Sir with true regard
Your much obliged and
most obedient Servant

Tho. Pennant.
