Novr 21. 1779

Dear Sir

I beg my compliments to Mr Clerk & shall be most happy to receive sketches of Inverlochy C. or any places in that vast mountainous tract, Glenco, or Taymouth, for I had no draftsman in 1769.1 They are not to engrave but to bind with my copy of the Tours; which I wish to do in Febr. if I can get the sketches.2

I shall be very glad of five or six copies of the Genera of birds, which I really have a right to. if White will not reprint them, money may be got by doing it in qto with a few plates.

I now remember Mr Elliot very well I beg my compliments to him & wish to know where he begins with de Buffon & whether he means to give plates: or whether he has begun to print. I hope he means to leave out the anatomy in anything I can do I shall be glad to assist him. ^I long for his plan. There are 3 volumes of Kalsa: I know not how to get you the 3d but you had best ask Mr Gough to do it. you forget to see if Mr Macgovans celt is gilt or not.

I am Dr Sir Yrs most faithfully

Tho. Pennant.

Have you got Mr Cordiner’s plates?

Editorial notes

1. Pennant's comment is significant, revealing that his artist and servant Moses Griffith did not accompany him on his 1769 tour of Scotland.
2. Pennant's six-volume set of extra-illustrated copies of his Tours in Scotland are now held in the National Library Wales.
