Dear Sir
I received yr favour & the two boxes on my return home. accept my best thanks for the maps &c. I beg you to send me no more birds except you can be sure they are new: for it brings on me a needless expence of carriage I cannot yet make out the brasses Mr Low sent. in respect to the other parts of his cargo I was cruelly disappointed. The other things you mention will be very acceptable.
Mr Macgovans present is very elegant. I beg you to convey my best thanks. & please to inform me as soon as convenient of the exact height of the little image the original. The drawing seems to me larger if I remember it.
My volume will not be out till after Christmas when some copies will be instantly sent for you & other friends.
I am with true regard
Dear Sir your obliged &
obedt Servt
Downing Aug. 29th. 1775.
I wish you could send me all particulars abt Fieldfares & Redwing thrushes whether they are plenty in Scotland in winter & whether in Cathness & other remote parts they never appear.
