Dr Sir
yr many favors I found yesterday on my return. I think I can scarce hit Mr Low if I write: so if you try pray thank him for his very acceptable Letter & let him know, I will certainly send one to meet him at Stromness.
I mean no profits on the plates of the octvo edition. I expect but my charges: & publish them merely to prevent the purchasers of the third edition from being obliged to buy the [...] on account of the plates.
I earnestly wish Mr Low may get the sight of the coins, or perhaps obtain a few.
No silver coin ever in Man.
The money was apparently taken out of my Letter by our P.master who has just been discharged for other knaveries. but there is no fixing this on him. you must be paid.
Many thanks for the seal.
Burrels M.S. will be acceptable. Mr Grose was with me in the isle of Man. I think with what ^drawings I have & some more I could publish plates of views in Scotland supplementary to Slezer. I should rather say that I could get a Bookseller to do it, for I would not risque the expence.
Pray are those you sent of Mr Clarks published for sale. or only given away.
I am Dear Sir yr obedt ServtDowning Aug. 16th 1774.
on reading Mr Low’s Letter again I see he will be at home before a Letter can reach him, so I write.
I take my son to London to school next week so it will be in vain to write to me till the last week in next month. dreadfull rainy weather here for a fortnight past, fine weather in Man.
Pray put the Letter to Mr Marshall into the post.
