Dear Sir
your kind favors of aug 23 septr. 2d & 17th met me yesterday at this: which with their agreable & instructive contents demand my best thanks. The use they are to me is very important: I have near fifty Letters before me so dare say you will excuse me for not enlarging more. I can only say that I feel very sensibly my inability to make an adequate return. I am unwilling to force the willing horse: all I can say that if [sic] you can soon pick up anything more respecting Giga. &c or any of the western isles ( [sic] you know those I saw it will be most acceptable. Be so good as to forward the inclosed & think me
Dear Sir
with the sincerest regard
Yrs
My compliments attend Mr Oliphant. also to Mr Macgovan: the box with his kind present has never been heard of: I wrote to Mr Secretary Jackson about it; begging him to write to the person who had care of it, as the loss will be heavy to the poor young man.
