                <p>I am sorry our affairs do not coincide a little better, so as to give us an opportunity of meeting in <placeName ref="pl0699">London</placeName>. Accor<del>d</del>ing to our present plan, my Brother &amp; I propose to be there about the middle of April, at w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi> time it is to be feared you will be return’d to the country. I am obligd to you for your kind offer concerning the Drawings, but cannot yet positively say which in particular I would wish to have copied. I must first consult some of my friends on that head, &amp; sh<hi rend="superscript">d</hi>. be glad of your opinion in the choice of them. <persName ref="pe0140">Linnæus</persName> says the fish wch I am doubtful whether to call <rs ref="cr0289">Perea</rs> or <rs ref="cr0314">Zeus</rs>, is actually a <hi rend="underline">New Genus</hi>! I have a<hi rend="subscript">^</hi>
                    <hi rend="superscript">good</hi> specimen w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi> you shall see &amp; it will be better to draw from <hi rend="subscript">^</hi>
                    <hi rend="superscript">that</hi>than my rude outline.</p> 
                <p>I shall now be glad to collect <hi rend="underline">all</hi> my scatter’d remarks on the <bibl>
                        <title ref="bi0797">Nat. Hist. of Gibraltar</title>
                    </bibl>, &amp; shall beg the favour of seeing, once more, those Anecdotes w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi> I have sent you from time to time, especially those that relate to the fishes, &amp; birds. I beg your thoughts on the <rs ref="cr0315">Lepidopus</rs>. It certainly is what <persName ref="pe2567">Gouan</persName> speaks of, tho’ very different in some respects. I shall have a great variety of new Insects; but I fear many more are lost by being too hastily handled &amp; examined. On examining the <hi rend="underline">biggest</hi> of my <hi rend="underline">short-bill’d <rs ref="cr3646">Andalusian</rs> <rs ref="cr0275">Larks</rs>
                    </hi>, &amp; comparing it with the British Larks here, I find it to be the real &amp; genuine <rs ref="cr0217">Sky lark, <hi rend="underline">Al. arvensis</hi>
                    </rs>. However I hope it’s past all doubt that I have still <hi rend="underline">two new Larks</hi>.</p> 
                <p>What I think you of <rs ref="cr0316">Gasterost. Saltatrix</rs>, as I have ventur’d to call it? Yet I fear it cannot be positively pronounc’d that species. I could like to have Cuts of all my <hi rend="underline">new</hi> subjects, provided they were well executed. But I observe<hi rend="subscript">^</hi>
                    <hi rend="superscript">that</hi> all the Artists, who succeed pretty well in Quadrup<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> &amp; Fishes, &amp; Insects, are still very defective in Birds. Have you &amp; <persName ref="pe2573">M. de Buffon</persName> adjusted. matters concerning the <rs ref="cr0317">Scops</rs>? I have a pretty specimen, but fear the Engravers will murder the delicate pencilling of that Bird.</p> 
                <p>I should be happy to have some days conference with you on the more rare of our subjects, before I finish my <bibl>
                        <title ref="bi0797">Fauna</title>
                    </bibl>. I am not so forward as Ie.<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> wish, for want of <del>all</del> having all my Specimens &amp; materials about me. If you have any papers or memorials that you can spare, w.<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi> may, contribute to my farther information, please to leave them<hi rend="subscript">^</hi>
