Dear Sir,

Now that the younger parts of my family, are dispersing, I get less noise, and more liesure [sic], to answer any little question you are pleased to ask of me, tho indeed my fingers are now so chilled, that I can scarce communicate to you what I know: The Edwardeses of Chirck [sic], and Cefn y wern, and of Plasnewidd, in Chirck [sic], as they are called, ended in a female Catherine, who married Sir Roger Puleston of Emrall, the grandson of the common Pleas Judge, of the same name:1 She died without issue and the heir at law, one Mrs. Magdalen Rowe, had a fruitless contest with Thomas of Puleston of Emrall, the son of Sir Roger ^(by a second wife,) for it. Thomas I conceive sold it to Robert Myddelton of Chirck [sic] Castle, who left it to a natural son, who died however before he came to age, and the present Gentleman of Chirck [sic] Castle is now the Owner; It run [sic] almost to the Castle Walls, and bound it in, on every side.

I am
Dear Sir,
Your affectionate Servant

Ph: Yorke

Erthig, 27th. Jan: 1795.

My son Simon cannot yet get quite rid of his ague. I told your son Mr. David, that I would send you Sr. Tho: Hanmer’s Epitaph by Dr. Friend [sic], but perhaps you are already in possession of it. Our best remembrances at Downing.

Thos: Pennant Esqr

Editorial notes

1. This may refer to John Puleston (c.1583–1659), judge of the Common Pleas during the Commonwealth, but his relation to Sir Roger Puleston (c.1663–1697) is unclear, and he clearly did not share the same name, as stated by Yorke. DWB; Hist P.
