Editorial notes

1. The year '98' is inserted in a different hand. If this letter was indeed written in 1798, August is the only month in which the 13th fell on a Monday. It is unlikely that Pennant would have been within reach of Bull during August, however, and the letter may be misplaced in this year.
2. It is not to clear to which of his publications Pennant refers here.
