Dear Sir

I thank you for yr obliging favor: & the Wynnstay tickets1 which had escaped me. Pray never speak of the double carriage of a former Box. I will not suffer you to be a double Loser. I hope this will catch you before you leave town for since I sent the sheets of England & orkney,2 I stumbled on a forgotten treasure of drawings relative to the latter. Be pleased to return the sheets by sending them packed between paste board Mr to Mr Hughs who will soon have occasion to send me a parcel. Moses regrets his too free use of the blue: [...] but amendment. I hope to bring up both our sets in December, when we may bind them together after consulting on a more careful binder than Wingrave who almost spoiled for me a fine set of Cook. Pray what has old Kippis said of his life.

Have I cleared up yr doubts about the Padagons3

My Son & I should be happy to partake of yr Bull feast: but it must be in stratton street. In the mean time may the Bull & heifers enjoy rich pasturage & every felicity.

adieu
most truely yrs

Tho. Pennant

Downing June 4th- 88.

Editorial notes

1. This may refer to the concerts and plays staged at the Wynnstay theatre, home of Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, fourth baronet, although by the early 1780s Wynn had started to make economies, notably through the sale of his horses and hounds in 1781. ODNB.
2. 'England' and 'orkney' as referred to here are sections of Pennant's 'Introduction of the Arctic World', incorporated into 'Outlines of the Globe' in his own case, but also extra-illustrated by Bull.
3. Pennant refers to his publication, Of the Patagonians, a copy of which he appears to have sent Bull with a letter of 15 April 1788. See 1073.
