Dear Sir

Many thanks for the present I am so undeserving of. Be so good as to order it to be sent instantly to Mr Whites Bookseller Fleetstreet. Your copy of the Journey to London shall be ready by Christmas perhaps before, If I can accomplish my own sooner. I thank you for the hint to my Son, but I really think that paternal affection does not blind me when I say that he may be trusted any where. Pray do you know of any friend who has acquaintance at Rheims or Dijon he means to pass a few days at each place: & a recommedndation might be of use. You who know every body may be kind enough to procure some. I have this moment wrote to the Dean of Glo^uster for to procure a copy of instruction for travellers which I have heard he has written. & if true to beg one. none more capable of giving solid ad[...]vice. Pray to whom do you refer in the counsil respecting expence.?

My best complimts attend Miss Bulls1. I hope all your fears respecting the health of one of the Ladies is over. Excuse fme for troubling you with presenting Mrs Pennant's & my Complimts to Lady Mary Duncan: & let her know that we expect that in another Tour she will not forget her Welsh relations.

I am Dear Sir most truely yrs

Tho. Pennant.

Editorial notes

a. The date is suggested on the basis of references to the continental travels of Pennant's son, David, and on the contrasting outlook on the completion of Bull's copy of The journey from Chester to London by 26 July [?1785] (see 1045).

1. Elizabeth and Catherine Bull.
