Dear Sir

I return you my most hearty thanks for your late favor & for the kind earnestness you show in assisting my enquiries. I presume that the Salmon get up the fall of the Tumel above Faskally tho’ you do not say it. my question arose from a dispute about the height those fish could surmount.

The writ is very curious. a most dangerous weapon in vindictive hands. & a sad proof of weak government that was obliged to use those delegated powers.

Perhaps I may be able to thank you at Delvin in 1776 for those favors. There is some talk of such a design.1 but distant plans are uncertain.

I am with
True regard
Dear Sir yr obliged & obedt Servt

1. Pennant seems here to be alluding to plans for a third tour of Scotland, which never materialised.
