Transcribed from a volume of scribal copies of Pennant's original letters to David Skene. The copies are likely the work of Alexander Thomson, who on his death in 1868, bequeathed the collection to Aberdeen University Library. See Colin A. McLaren, ‘Reports and surveys of archives in northern Scotland’ in Northern Scotland: A Historical Journal, Volume 1 (1972), pp.115-125.

Dear Sir

As a slight token of my friendship please to accept my first part of the iconical Zoology of Great Britain, forwarded this day in a parcel to Doctor Ramsay at Edinburgh, who will deliver it to your order. I beg to have your opinion of it addressed as before under cover to Sir Roger Mostyn Bart. at Mostyn Flintshire; at the same time let me hear what new discoveries you have made. You will do me great pleasure in favouring me with whatsoever shells and mollusca you can get which will make part of my future work.

Mr. Ellis is well and presents his complements.

I am in much haste but Dear Sir much your’s [sic]

T. Pennant
