Transcribed from a volume of scribal copies of Pennant's original letters to David Skene. The copies are likely the work of Alexander Thomson, who on his death in 1868, bequeathed the collection to Aberdeen University Library. See Colin A. Dear Sir
I returned last night from my long tour which was passed much to my satisfaction; in spite of the deluges in the western highlands. Assure yourself that in no place I met with equal edification than what your cabinet gave. I lament much the detention of the box; but must beg that it may be expedited to Doctor Hope as soon as possible; with a letter of advice; as to myself I set out for Downing in three days time; therefore hope to be favoured with your promised letter inclosed to Sir Roger Mostyn Bart. M. P. at Mostyn Flintshire. I am at this time so much hurried; as to be incapable of saying more than that.
I am Dear Sir with true
regard
Your obliged and faithful
Servant
I beg my best complements to Dr. G. Skene and Dr. Levingston. I am ashamed to leave Aberdeen without paying for the box but it shall not be forgot.
