Dear Sir

I beg you would please to give my compliments to Mr Elliot Bookseller & let him know I am very sorry that I made my arrangements before his application came, or I should have paid it due respect. He must as usual apply to the advertised Booksellers in Town.

I owe Mr Low a letter: will soon write to him my thoughts. The public calamities will I fear for a time prove a sad check to our publications.1 but the studies will serve to beguile the miseries of the times, till better come. So let us pursue our innocent amusements. I beg my best wishes to Dr Ramsay. I will write to him from London.

I also beg you to thank Mr Elliot for his kind presents: but wish to pay for them as I am unable to satisfy his wishes. Be so good as to discharge the debt & let me know what it is. perhaps I may serve him in Mr Low’s publication.

I am
Dear Sir
