Dear Sir

I have just time to thank you for yr favor; & to beg yr corrections of my map as soon as convenient. as to Col. Roys I would by no means have anything taken from his by stealth as it is a private property & even unpublished.1 It would be dishonorable to think of it. My outline is from Dorret; but the islands are often mended. The orkneys from Mackenzie.

I am Dr Sir
your faithful humble Servt

Tho. Pennant

Downing Aug. 27th 1776.

1. Most likely a reference to proofs of William Roy's 'Mappa Britanniae Septentrionalis', not published until it appeared in his posthumous Military Antiquities of the Romans in North Britain (1793). See Pennant's letter to Paton on 26 July 1774 and notes.
